Maine School Law Summer Institute

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE: 

Join us for 8 interactive Zoom sessions! July 22-31, 2024 (9 am - 12 pm, Weekdays)

The School Law Institute – led by Drummond Woodsum school attorneys who have years of experience both practicing and teaching school law – is designed with busy educators in mind. The Institute distills from the vast body of education statutes, regulations, and court decisions the knowledge that educators need to perform their jobs effectively and to recognize and prevent legal problems before they arise. The institute involves significant reading in advance from the Maine School Law textbook, as well as collected court and arbitration rulings. Participants will participate in interactive exercises during the course and complete a multiple-choice take-home exam at the conclusion of the course. Grades will be based on class participation, in-class activities, and the final exam. The Institute is an intense and exciting learning experience for educators, so we encourage participants to be fully present during their online sessions. Because of the small class size and casual nature of the Institute, instructors Elek Miller and Isabel Ekman will be available to continue discussions and talk informally with participants throughout the 8-days of classes.

Registration & Payment: 

Registration and payment are due in full by July 15, 2024. Payment may be made by registering online or by check (made payable to schoollaw.com) mailed to PO Box 7570 DTS, Portland, ME 04112.

  Cancellation Policy: 

We understand that plans change. If you find you can no longer attend the Institute, please contact Morgan Stickney at mstickney@dwmlaw.com. If you cancel before July 1, 2024, and materials are returned to Drummond Woodsum un-opened (textbook still wrapped in plastic) you will be refunded the full registration amount less $250. If you cancel before July 1, 2024, and materials have been opened (textbook not wrapped in plastic) you will be charged for the cost of the textbook ($149), and the $250 cancellation fee. You may keep your textbook. If you cancel on or after July 1, 2024 and before the start of class, we will refund 50% of the total amount due ($625). If you cancel after the start of class, your payment is nonrefundable.
