This is the definitive three-part review of the key requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act impacting students with disabilities in your schools. In part one, our presenters will review the standards for determining whether a student has a disability and qualifies for supports through Section 504. We also address the role of medical diagnoses and the various pitfalls schools fall into when making eligibility decisions under Section 504, and key consideration before writing 504 accommodation plans.
Session 2: Tuesday, November 18, 2025 | 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
In part two, the focus will be on the important procedural obligations imposed on school officials by Section 504.The presenters will discuss the content of student 504 plans in detail and the intersection between Section 504 and special education, as well as issues concerning student health plans, discipline, and access to extracurricular activities.
Session 3: Tuesday, December 2, 2025 | 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
In part three, the presenters will discuss the most recent developments regarding Section 504 and the ADA, with an emphasis on the vast and noteworthy changes at the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and the U.S. Department of Education, and what they mean for Section 504 enforcement. We will also touch on challenging topics such as bullying and harassment involving students with disabilities, non-attending students, service animals, and other issues. Don’t miss it!
