About the program:
Join us as we discuss what schools need to know in advance of benefits becoming available in May 2026 under Maine’s Paid Family and Medical Leave law. In this program, we provide an overview of the updated rules regarding Paid FML and what obligations schools will have under these rules, including what protections schools will need to provide to employees on leave. In addition, we’ll discuss how the new Paid FML benefits will interact with existing leave laws and benefits, and provide suggestions on how best to manage the differences and the overlap. This program will include interactive scenarios and plenty of opportunities to ask questions.
Topics will include:
• Paid FML basics such as the protections Paid FML will provide, who will be eligible, what they’ll receive, and notice requirements;
• The differences between Paid FML and FMLA, Maine FML, and Maine School FML;
• Intermittent leave; and
• How Paid FML will interact with benefits provided by law or collective bargaining agreements.
