Session 1: Thursday, November 4, 2021 | 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
In part one, our presenters will review the standards for determining eligibility under this law, including “physical or mental impairment,” and “substantial limitation of a major life activity.” We also address the role of diagnoses in eligibility decisions.
Session 2: Wednesday, November 10, 2021 | 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
In part two, the focus will be on the important procedural obligations imposed on school officials by Section 504. Eric and Allen will discuss the content of student 504 plans and the differences between Section 504 and special education.
Session 3: Wednesday, November 17, 2021 | 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
In part three, Eric and Allen will discuss the most recent developments regarding Section 504 and the ADA, and touch on unique topics such as service animals, web access, food allergies, and handling complaints from the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) or in other forums. Allen and Eric will also discuss some of the key implications that the covid-19 pandemic has had for students with disabilities, including complicated requests for masking requirements in classrooms and school facilities.
