This is the definitive three-part review of all the key requirements of Section 504 as it impacts students in your schools.  Drummond Woodsum attorneys Eric Herlan and Allen Kropp are national experts in this area and will provide all the information you need. Allen and Eric bring back to you their ever-popular summary of this very important law.
Session 1 | Tuesday, November 5, 2019 | 12:30-1:45 PM

In part one, our presenters will review the standards for determining eligibility under this law, including "physical or mental impairment," and "substantial limitation on a major life activity." We also address the role of diagnoses in eligibility decisions.

Session 2 | Wednesday, November 13, 2019 | 12:30-1:45 PM

In part two, the focus will be on the important procedural obligations imposed on school officials by Section 504. Eric and Allen will discuss the content of student 504 plans and the differences between Section 504 and special education in terms of what schools must provide to students.

Session 3 | Thursday, November 21, 2019 | 12:30-1:45 PM

In part three, Eric and Allen will discuss the most recent developments regarding Section 504 and the ADA, and touch on unique topics such service animals, web access, food allergies, and "effective communication" requirements. Plus, Allen will share insights on the inner workings of the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) and how best to handle 504/ADA complaints, whether with OCR or in other forums. Don’t miss it!
